The actor duo of Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire, known to the public as Dhurmuse and Suntali from the popular TV serial Meri Bassai, entertained the crowd at the ongoing seventh Paschimanchal Mahila Mahotsab on Sunday. The festival was organised by Radio Didi Bahini.
Radio Didi Bahini is a community radio run and managed by women, which aims to educate and empower women, especially from disadvantaged and marginalised communities, and ensure their participation in mainstream media. Although the radio show mostly focuses on local contents and issues, covering the four districts of Parbat , Baglung, Myagdi and Mustang, it is also becoming popular in parts of western Nepal.
During the festival, the actor duo, who played the roles of Khadka ji (Kattel) and Fatauri Budhi (Sharma), sent flurries of excitement among the audience with their numerous satires on our political leadership.
Apart from entertaining the crowd, the actors also participated in raising awareness about keeping the environment clean. Both Kattel and Sharma have been appointed as goodwill ambassadors for cleanliness by the government of Nepal. On being asked how he felt about taking on the role of a goodwill ambassador, Kattel said that this honour made him realise that actors belong to the nation and can play important roles in raising awareness about different issues.
The festival also saw the participation of superstar Rajesh Hamal and folk singers Devi Gharti, Purnakala BC, Ramji Khand and Tika Pun, among others.
