Tension and release are indispensable components of a good story, but pop news site BuzzFeed took the concept to a new level overnight, captivating a massive internet audience with an epic attempt to explode a watermelon.More than 800,000 people who had nothing better to do tuned in to the live Facebook broadcast to watch a pair of alleged journalists place 686 rubber bands around the large fruit until it burst.And burst it did after 45 minutes of viewers watching a stationary melon.So far the vid has clocked up about 6m views.Here's a truncated version of the clip, with some more fruity antics thrown in for good measure.While everyone tries to get millennials to pay attention to live television, BuzzFeed was able to captivate more than 800,000 people at once thanks to some rubber bands and a piece of fruit.
