Dr. Surendra K.C is the chief of the department of history at TribhuvanUniversity. He is known as a political analyst in the nation. Excerpts of an interview with Dr. K.C on contemporary politics: Q: Will the current Constituent Assembly promulgate a new constitution? A: A new constitution will be drafted if there is the will to do so. But this game is not about drafting a new constitution, rather it is for taking powerful positions in the government and making leaders’ relatives – brothers, nephews, brother-in-law, mother-in-law – rich. It is to store money for seven generations of descendants of the political leaders. It is to create chaos and instability in the nation and turn it into a failed state. It is in line with the policy to fill the vacant positions by making this nation a supply depot of powerful countries and encircle China and Tibet. There is nothing more to this than what I have mentioned. Q: You have hinted that there will be increasing foreign intervention. Which of the nations are currently intervening in the nation’s internal matters? A: Knowingly or unknowingly the progressive powers in particular the democratic and communist forces are involved in the politics for foreign support or under foreign direction. If we are to take the book written by Indian author S.D Muni as a basis, it has been revealed that the then Maoists had given a written pledge that it would be involved in politics without being completely against the Indian interests. In view of this the forces in Nepal, particularly the leftist forces are not inclined to defending Nepal’s neutral and sovereign state, which is unfortunate. Such forces are on the rise.
