Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an all party meeting for Saturday. The PM has invited all political parties represented in the parliament on the eve of parliament's budget session, which is scheduled to begin from May 3. According to the PM's press advisor, Pramod Dahal, Oli will discuss the reconstruction process and the budget session of the parliament with the leaders. "He will brief the leaders about the government's policy and program and the budget. He will also discuss about the upcoming parliament session and urge political parties to support the reconstruction works by mobilizing volunteers," said Dahal. The meeting is scheduled for 9 am on Saturday at Singha Durbar. Meanwhile, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar held a meeting with the chief whips of all parliamentary parties on Friday and discussed the business of budget session.

Raging forest fires have become a major cause for concern, as they are not only resulting in fast depletion of trees but also are greatly affecting humans and wildlife. The authorities and local people have been facing a tough time containing fires that are spreading through the jungles across the country, thanks to prolonged dry spell and windy weather condition. A fresh forest fire in the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, the only hunting reserve in the country, in Myagdi district has put wildlife in Gurja area at risk. “Dry trees catch fire easily and the blaze just spreads through the jungle in no time,” said Jhak Bahadur Chhantyal, a local of Gurja. A team of security personnel was struggling to contain the fire till Thursday evening.Around 350,000 hectares of forest cover has been reported to have been destroyed by wildfires in the past 45 days. – THE KATHMANDU POST

A fire ripping through the Bagbazaar of Dadeldhura is spiraling out of control as a fire engine dispatched from Dipayal is yet to arrive at the incident site. Efforts are being made to bring the fire under control. The fire which started from Rajai mattress shop in Bagbazaar at 6 am is spreading from one shop to another. Madan Prakash General store, Baidhyanath cotton industry, Sidha Binayak Traders and another vegetable shop have been completely destroyed in fire while other nearby shops have sustained minor damages. Armed Police Force, Nepal Army and Police are trying to take the inferno under control. Locals are complaining that it is getting difficult to take the fire under control due to the lack of water.The only fire brigade which is broken since a week has been taken to Dhangadhi. Police have informed that other fire brigades have been called in from Baitadi and Doti. Meanwhile, the locals have vented anger on the administration by vandalising the Amargadhi municipality office.

The examination form distribution for the Test Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) language, for aspirant Nepali workers for Korean jobs under the Employment Permit System (EPS), has begun from Wednesday. The aspiring candidates for Korean jobs should submit their forms on April 27-30. The TOPIK language, for aspirant Nepali workers for Korean jobs under the Employment Permit System (EPS), has been scheduled for June 18 and 19. The candidates who pass the Korean exam will be vying for jobs in manufacturing and agricultural sectors for the year 2017. The TOPIK exam will be conducted in Kathmandu and Pokhara. According to EPS Section Director Dilli Ram Bastola, the forms can be submitted at five different places in the Kathmandu Valley and five other centers outside the valley — Butwal, Pokhara, Dharan, Janakpur and Dadeldhura. The candidates who pass TOPIK will be registered in the roaster of workers for South Korea and later will be shortlisted according to employer’s demand. The Korean government had opened 7,100 worker positions for agriculture and manufacturing sectors for 2016.

The country also dragged its feet in establishing the Nepal Reconstruction Authority, which began operations in January, more than seven months after the earthquake that damaged or destroyed more than 900,000 homes. Costs of damages and losses are estimated at $7 billion, according to the government. “There are scorpions,” said Pandey’s mother Saraswoti, 40. “The other night, I saw a snake hanging down from the ceiling,” she said. During monsoon season, rain comes pouring in through the tin roof. In the winter, they try to plug up drafts with hay and build bonfires outside. The only relief that reached the Pandey family was a tarp and some bulk rice and lentils. They haven’t received any rebuilding assistance from Nepal’s government, which has faced criticism at home and from international donors for its handling of one of biggest natural disasters in the country’s history.Although $4.1 billion in international aid has been pledged by donors, only a small fraction has been committed and disbursed. In the meantime, all over the earthquake-impacted zones, families are still living in temporary shelters some 3 million people, according to aid group Save the Children. While initial relief efforts were fairly robust, red tape, political infighting and inefficiency have hobbled the rebuilding process. Nepal’s parliament passed a new constitution in September 2015, which led to political tensions among the diverse ethnic communities. Protesters at the Indian border began a blockade that lasted more than four months, causing severe shortages of fuel and other supplies across Nepal.

Prominent cancer-related charities have been deceiving their donors about where their money is going, according to a new complaint submitted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) this week. Between 2008 and 2012, the Cancer Fund of America, along with other prominent charities, allegedly misspent nearly $200 million in donations they said would fund hospice care, transportation of cancer patients to and from chemotherapy sessions, and pain medication for children.

The FTC says that heads of the Knoxville, TN-based charity instead used the donation money to purchase meals at Hooters, lingerie at Victoria’s Secret, jet ski joy rides, car washes, and couple’s cruises to the Caribbean. The charging documents also outlined trips to amusement parks and payments of family members’ college tuition.

The lawsuit goes on to allege that the Cancer Fund of America carried out the scheme in conjunction with Cancer Support Services, Children’s Cancer Fund of America, and the Breast Cancer Society. Officials said once the quartet raised funds, they spent a significant amount of donations on subsequent fundraising efforts before doling out large salaries and generous bonuses to employees and family members. They concealed their wrongdoing by falsifying financial documents, reporting inflated revenues, overvaluing gift donations.

Many people are feared to have drowned after the boat they were being transferred to by traffickers capsized in the Mediterranean, survivors say. Mr Surya Kiran Gurung is a senior lawyer based in Kathmandu. He has double LLM degrees from Patna University in India and the University of Atlanta in Canada specializing on international law. A plane approaching Heathrow Airport is believed to have hit a drone before it landed safely, the Metropolitan Police has said. The British Airways flight from Geneva was hit as it approached the London airport at about 12:50 BST with 132 passengers and five crew on board. After landing, the pilot reported an object - believed to be a drone - had struck the front of the Airbus A320. Aviation police based at Heathrow have launched an investigation. Police said no arrests have been made. If confirmed, it is believed to be the first incident of its kind in the UK. A British Airways spokesman said: "Our aircraft landed safely, was fully examined by our engineers and it was cleared to operate its next flight." The airline will give the police "every assistance with their investigation", the spokesman added.

Twenty-nine people were injured when a passenger bus en route to Dharan from Bhojpur headquarters met with an accident on Sunday. According the District Police Office, nine of the injured are in critical condition. The ill-fated bus owned by Saptakoshi Yatayat overturned at Bharlabote in Jarayotar VDC-6, Leguwa along the Hile-Bhojpur road section in the morning, police said. The seriously injured passengers have been taken to Dharan for treatment. Bus driver Ganesh Bhandari, who sustained minor injuries, is in police custody at Jarayotar. The bus was carrying 60 passengers.

Jeetu Nepal, popularly known as Mundre, is a Nepali comedy actor, writer and director of comedy weekly television series Jire Khursani. A rescue team needed some long ladders to help a goat which had somehow become stuck on some telephone wire and was hanging around 20 feet above the road in Greece.

It was hanging from its curly horns, which had become caught on the wire, and although goats like to climb, no-one is quite sure how it ended up hanging there.
